Pun Inspiration: Engagement
Apologies for the long break in posting, but I’ve been otherwise engaged.
That’s right, my boyfriend-turned fiancé decided we should ring in the New Year in a special way.
So, a few days after the calendar turned to 2021, he proposed we take a walk around a lake where we had our fifth date. In a secluded spot near the water, he pulled out my last Christmas present. A stuffed otter with a ring box between its paws (clearly, he knows that otters are a direct line to my heart). He then asked if I would be his significant otter for life.
I cried with joy as I accepted. A proposal with an otter and a pun? He really gets me. Or I groomed him well.
Also, we named the otter (pictured above) Ring-o.
With demanding professional commitments fast approaching, my fiancé’s schedule didn’t allow for a long engagement. So, we set our date for this spring, and just like that, planning took off with fast eloping strides. And now that everyone who will be attending is fully vaccinated, I feel like I can stop some of my matri-moaning.
Since then, I’ve had a bit of a wild bride over the last few months. I can espouse that it is not easy planning during a pandemic. With the world constantly changing, it felt like I couldn’t get too wedded to any idea. How could I plan for a future when the outlook for the next month or week was so uncertain?
We landed on a small, family-only, backyard wedding. We’ll do a big party next summer, but didn’t want to wait that long to make it official. With a funfetti-cake and take-out from the chain restaurant where we had our first date, it may not vow anyone with elegance or be a big, elaborate love affair. But I am sure we’ll have a marry old time. Ask me if this is what I can I want and I can definitively say, “I do.”
And at the end of the day, my fiancé will hus-band together with me and with him by my side, I know I will have enough happiness for my wifetime.
